Art for Afrikids began as a hobby during the 2020 COVID lockdown. Laurie needed something to keep her busy. So she taught herself the art of decoupage. Laurie started with coconuts but soon moved on to seashells after an amazing shelling trip to Sanibel Island on the west coast of Florida.
The decoupaged and hand-painted shells were initially meant to be gifts only for family and friends. But in April 2021, we set up a booth at the Florida Keys Farmers Market in Islamorada and Laurie’s shell art quickly became a hit.
Art for Afrikids is now a regular at farmers’ markets and art fairs in South Florida. 100% of the sales proceeds go to support our wonderful Afrikids students.
